Île-de-France.
The circular city of Paris was bisected by the Seine River. It took about thirty minutes to walk across the town which had a wealth of gardens, palaces, parks, theatres, science academies, opera and ballet venues. Its streets were among the first that were lighted, there was public transportation, running water and safe building codes. For its size and grandeur, its only European rival in the 1600's was London, and King Louis XIV had visions of Paris achieving the glory of ancient Rome.
Our ancestors who emigrated from Île-de-France are listed below. The dates reflect the year they arrived in Canada if known, otherwise it is the date of their earliest appearances in the records there:
- Marguerite Breton (1651) of Paris.
- Denise Lemaître (1659) of Paris.
- Mathieu Gervais (1665) of Paris.
- Perrine LaPierre (1666) of Corbeil.
- Pierre Poupart (1666) of Paris.
- Jeanne Denot (1667) of Paris.
- Catherine Ducharme (1672) of Paris.
