About this site.

Petelle Motors.

The Petelle Motor Company, a Hupmobile dealership at 5250 Broadway Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, was owned by Walter J. Petelle. It operated until the weight of the Great Depression shut it down around 1932.

Walter continued to work in automobile sales and in 1950 obtained a Mercury franchise with his sons. Located at 6954 West Grand Avenue, Elmwood Park, Petelle Motor Sales soon led all Mercury dealers in Cook County in sales. The dealer nameplate he used - Petelle | chicago - is pictured in the collage above.

Who are all these people?

This site traces the ancestry of an American family, with its many branches and its roots in several nations. It is an ongoing research project and new articles will be added as they are completed.

The update link to the right describes the postings.

How to navigate.

  1. On the home page click on an image/icon to choose a branch of the family. (Please note that until articles are added about that family line all will link to the master Index of Names).
  2. The Index of Names is organized alphabetically by family groups (dictionary-style), with the earliest generation first. Clicking a highlighted surname will navigate to that person's family group.
  3. If using a mouse, you may view more information by letting it hover over images (look for small dots in maps and a stopwatch at the bottom of the link list), and over underlined or italicized words. Some images and phrases are click-able links to additional information or to offsite web pages.
  4. Links to maternal lines are found in the side link list. These stories start with the earliest instance of the maternal family and loop back to the page where the marriage occurs.
