Perche.

Percheron draft horses worked the fields in this farming community that is surrounded by beautiful forests. The large dappled grey horses once carried medieval knights into battle upon their back.

The village of Mortagne has preserved its ancient heritage with a wealth of old markets, homes and gardens.

In the 1600's so many people left Perche to settle in Québec that the movement was referred to in later years as the "Percheron Immigration". They were recruited to help settle the colony in the New World.

Our ancestors who emigrated from Perche are listed below. The dates reflect the year they arrived in Canada if known, otherwise it is the date of their earliest appearances in the records there:
