Joseph Poupart and Marie Gervais.

Close Relations.

Banns of marriage were published over three Sundays in the church at Longueuil to announce the marriage of Joseph Poupart and Marie Gervais. They were 2nd cousins, 1 time removed, having both descended from Mathieu Gervais and Michelle Picard. The wedding took place on 13 October 1788. Witnesses included his brother Constant Poupart, as well as "Joseph Boyer, Ignace Dumas, Joseph Doré, Jean Carbouneau, Jean Baptiste Gervais, Michel Pattenode, Michel Marsil, and several others who have all declared that they have not signed."

They had five children. Our ancestor Marie-Geneviève was born in La Prairie on 26 April 1794. She married Paul Mondou in 1812.

The couple moved from La Prairie to the village of Saint-Rémi where they appear in the 1825 and 1831 census records.

Joseph and Marie died within days of each other in Saint-Rémi. Joseph was 73 when he passed on 3 July 1831 and Marie was 61 when she died four days later.
