Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger

Léger (April 26, 1904—November 13, 1991) was a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Montreal from 1950 to 1968, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1953 by Pope Pius XII. He descends from our ancestor Pierre Roy. René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle

Robert Cavelier (November 22, 1643—March 19, 1687) was a French explorer. Born in Rouen, he followed his brother Jean, a Sulpician priest, to Canada in 1666. Fascinated with the potential of finding a route to China through the rivers of North America he embarked on several journeys through the Great Lakes and down in to the Ohio Valley. This foray was later invoked by the French to lay claim to the area preceding the French and Indian War in 1754. It was he who gave the name La Louisiane, for King Louis XIV of France, to the Mississippi basin.

La Salle was murdered by one of his men in 1687 while attempting to locate the Mississippi River from a colony he established along the Gulf of Mexico, and he died without issue. He is a cousin of either our ancestor Perette Cavelier according to Je Me Souviens or Colette Cavelier per The Wreck of the Belle and thus a cousin of ours.
