BOUCHERVILLE.

Among the settlers who were recruited by Pierre Boucher from Trois-Rivières to build Boucherville were several of our ancestors (noted in red on the map). The move was about 85 miles (138 km) upriver. Boucher chose men with a variety of occupations to round out his community with the necessary trades.

Thirty-nine families farmed about 320 acres. Like most land concessions in Québec the farms were platted to give each lot access to the river. Though the spread-out configuration was a defensive nightmare, access to the river provided ease of travel in a land with few roads.

Boucherville was across the St-Lawrence river from a thriving community in Montréal, separated by several small islands. The village is just north of Longueuil.

Children in the small community grew up together, married, and our ancestor family lines were joined. Links to their stories may be found in the link list to the right.
