Marie-Thérèse LeBlanc Remarries.
Marriage and Divorce.
Her husband of twenty years was declared dead in 1686 and Thérèse, 35, was left with a house full of young children. Her mother had passed, but she still lived next door to her father on her large farm.
She married the widower Toussaint Giroux on 29 October 1686 in Batiscan, who had fathered 12 children.
He was a weaver and also farmed land in Beauport. The inventory after his wife's death listed a chest that had a key to lock it, linens and clothes belonging to his wife. Among the the livestock were 8 pigs along with "4 little ones". While much of his property would go to his children, in their marriage contract he promised Thérèse 500 livres in case of their separation or his death.
The couple had a daughter, Marie-Madeleine Giroux, about a year later. It seems he too ran up debt with area merchants, owing Pachot 138 livres in December 1690. The couple quarreled constantly. In April 1691 Thérèse and Toussaint broke up, each going their own way.
Toussaint died in February 1715 while in the care of his son Raphaël.
Our ancestor Marie-Thérèse LeBlanc died in the hospital in ville de Québec on 10 July 1729 at the age of 78.
