Dorothy Louise Petelle (1914-1915).

Dorothy was the first child born to Walter and Marie and was their only daughter. Her birth date was September 5, 1914.

The family lived with her grandparents, the Hansen's, at 2301 North Monticello Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. Her father worked with her grandfather Sam Hansen selling beer.

The little girl was named after her grandmothers: Christine Dorothy Hansen and Louise "Lula" Petelle. Dorothy contracted pneumonia, leading to a severe lung infection, and died at the age of four months on New Year's Day 1915.

Marie channeled her grief into love in later years, as she treated her four daughters-in-law as "her girls".
